The Stone of Wisdom & Inspiration
Amethyst
Amethyst is treasured for its elegant purple hue and remains one of the most popular crystals of all. The ancient Greeks believed it could keep the mind clear and steady, and in modern crystal lore amethyst is associated with the crown chakra and taken as a symbol of wisdom, intuition and quiet awareness.

How to wear it
Either Hand
Folk tradition says to wear amethyst on the left hand to take in a sense of calm, or on the right hand to project clear thinking outward.
Where to Place It

Frequently asked questions
Is a darker amethyst always better?
Depth of colour is not the only measure; an even, richly saturated purple is the real mark of quality. Stones that are too dark and murky, or unevenly coloured, are generally lower grade. Natural amethyst shows a glassy lustre in strong light, and a weak lustre can be a sign of dyeing.
