Natal Chart
Natal Chart Reading: Your Sun, Moon and Rising Sign
A natal chart (birth chart) is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born: which zodiac signs the Sun, Moon and planets were in, plus the sign rising on the eastern horizon — your Rising sign, or Ascendant.
The Qi Yi Crystal reading room calculates positions from an astronomical ephemeris (based on VSOP87 planetary theory and NASA JPL DE405 data, accurate to about ±1 arcminute), then an AI reading explains your big three in plain English.
What you'll need
- Birth date
- Birth time (hour; with minutes we can also calculate your Rising sign)
- Birthplace (for time zone and coordinates)

How a natal chart is calculated: 4 steps
- 1
Convert to universal time: your birth time is converted from your birthplace's time zone into the standard time used for astronomical calculation.
- 2
Calculate the Sun and Moon: their exact ecliptic degrees at that moment give their zodiac signs.
- 3
Calculate the Rising sign: with birth hour and minute plus the latitude and longitude of your birthplace, we find the sign on the eastern horizon. With only an hour, we don't guess it.
- 4
Read the big three: the AI explains what your Sun, Moon and Rising each say about you, and how they work together.
What the big three mean
| Placement | What it describes | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Sun sign | Your core drive and the person you want to become | Birth date (time if born on a cusp day) |
| Moon sign | Your emotional responses and what makes you feel safe | Birth date + time (the Moon changes sign about every 2.5 days) |
| Rising sign | First impressions and how you meet new situations | Birth date + hour and minute + birthplace (changes about every 2 hours) |
Is it accurate? Our honest take
The planetary positions are astronomical calculation — where the Sun and Moon were is a checkable fact. What each sign means comes from the symbolic tradition of astrology; use it for self-reflection.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a natal chart without my birth time?
Your Sun sign, yes, and usually your Moon sign. But the Rising sign changes about every two hours, so without your birth hour and minute it can't be calculated reliably — we leave it out rather than guess.
Why do you need my birthplace?
The sky looks different from Taipei and from London at the same moment. Your birthplace sets the time zone and coordinates, which the Rising sign especially depends on.
How is this different from a daily horoscope?
A horoscope only uses your Sun sign, so everyone with that sign reads the same thing. A natal chart is calculated from your own birth time and place; your Moon and Rising can differ from your Sun, which is why two people with the same Sun sign can feel very different.
How much is a natal chart reading?
A natal chart reading in our reading room is 69 points (1 point = NT$1).
Is a human reading my chart?
No. Charts and calculations are done by code following fixed rules, and the reading is written by AI. There is no human reader. How each reading is calculated is published on our “How our readings work” page.
