What people mean by "feng shui bracelet"

Feng shui itself is about places — how a home or office is arranged. The phrase "feng shui bracelet" is a modern retail label that borrows the same symbolic vocabulary and puts it on the wrist. Three quite different products are sold under that name, and it helps to know which one you are looking at before you compare prices.

Charm bracelets: usually black obsidian beads with a pixiu (a mythical winged lion) in gold-coloured metal. The charm carries the meaning; the beads are a backdrop.
Mantra bracelets: beads engraved with the six-syllable mantra, borrowed from Buddhist prayer beads rather than from feng shui proper.

The symbols, and where they actually come from

None of the meanings below are measurable properties of a stone. They are cultural associations — some centuries old, some only a few decades — and a fair seller will describe them that way.

Pixiu: in Chinese folklore, a creature said to eat gold and silver and never give it back, which is why shopkeepers keep a figurine near the till. As a bracelet charm it is a recent commercial idea.
Black obsidian: volcanic glass, not a crystal in the strict sense. In Chinese-speaking markets it is traditionally associated with steadiness and a sense of protection, and its plain black suits almost anyone, which explains its popularity in men's bracelets.
Citrine and golden rutilated quartz: yellow and gold belong to the earth and metal families, and yellow stones are traditionally linked with prosperity symbolism. Golden rutilated quartz is prized in Taiwan and Hong Kong far more than in the West.
Green phantom quartz: clear quartz with green mineral inclusions shaped like layered hills. Green is the wood family — growth and career in the traditional reading.
Tiger's eye: brown-gold chatoyant stone, earth family, traditionally associated with composure and decisiveness.

Choosing by five elements instead of by charm

The five-element approach starts from the person, not the product. A BaZi chart (the "eight characters" of the year, month, day and hour of birth in the Chinese calendar) shows how metal, wood, water, fire and earth are distributed. How to judge any feng shui bracelet before you pay

The category attracts exaggerated promises, so a few checks are worth making wherever you buy. A seller who answers these clearly is usually a seller worth buying from.

Is the stone named and natural? "Obsidian" sold very cheaply in bulk is often plain black glass. Ask whether stones are natural, dyed or synthetic.
Is the charm metal described? Gold-coloured alloy is not gold. We do not sell pixiu charms at all, so this is a question for other sellers — but do ask it.
Is the size made for your wrist? One-size elastic strands fit few people well. Made-to-order sizing in centimetres is more reliable.
Does the listing promise outcomes? Wealth, health or luck promises are a warning sign, not a feature. No bracelet can promise those things, and we never do.

Sizing, bead size and what natural crystal looks like

Bead diameters are 6mm, 8mm and 10mm. Wrist sizes run from 11cm to 22cm (about 4.3 to 8.7 inches). Measure your actual wrist circumference with a soft tape and choose that exact number; if you measure in inches, multiply by 2.54. The system already works out the slack for the bead size you pick, so please do not add extra length yourself — that is the most common reason a bracelet ends up too loose.

Each bead's stone type and size is listed. Ice cracks, cloud-like veils and slight colour variation between beads are normal rather than defects.

What is a feng shui bracelet?

It is a beaded bracelet whose stones, colours or charms are chosen according to Chinese symbolic tradition.
